Maine Hiking
Wildlife sightings are just some of the perks to taking a hike in Maine!
Take a hike, Rangeley, Maine style!
Maine is full of amazing hikes, along rivers, mountain peaks, and the beautiful coast. The problem with hiking in Maine is decided which trail to chose!
The Rangeley Lakes Region abounds with walking and hiking opportunities. Ten of the fourteen tallest peaks in Maine, 4000 foot or higher, are in the Rangeley Lakes Region within a 45 minute drive to trail heads. Bigelow (Avery Peak), Bigelow (West Peak), Crocker, Mt. Abraham, Mt. Redington, Saddleback Mountain, Saddleback Mountain (The Horn), South Crocker, Spaudling Mountain, and Sugarloaf all offer outstanding hiking opportunities with expansive vistas and the thrill of ‘bagging’ a 4000 footer!
The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust has conserved over 12,500 acres of woodland, much with lake and pond access, and has provided well-maintained walking/trekking trails for general public use. Whether it’s a short hike up Bald Mountain which offers a spectacular panoramic view from its fire tower, a Story Walk along the Hatchery Brook Preserve with a picnic lunch on the tables provided and some fishing from the dock you’ll find, or a thrilling scramble alongside the Cascade Gorge Trail, the walking trails in the Rangeley region are plentiful and offer something for everyone. You’ll also have the opportunity to walk on a part of the Appalachian
Trail when you trek out to Piazza Rock, an enormous, flat boulder that appears to be balanced in mid-air. And the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center offers over 26 miles of mapped hiking and mountain biking trails that run along streams, up and down rolling elevation, through pristine forests. The walking, trekking, hiking opportunities in Rangeley are abundant and just waiting to be explored!
