Lincoln Outdoor Center
In a kayak, you are sitting with your head only a few feet above the water. Your entire view of the water changes. If one of Maine’s countless harbor seals swims nearby, you can look it straight in the eye. You can paddle into the nooks and crannies and literally land on islands that are inaccessible to boats with deeper hulls.
If you are planning on spending a night out, there are few places better than on one of our coastal islands. Imagine paddling a few miles or more, landing on an island and “claiming” a camping spot for yourself. You’ll eat dinner with the sunset and wake up to the first sunrises in the U.S., staring out towards open ocean.
Lincoln Outdoor Center can tailor an experience for you that suits your experience level and desire for energy output and adrenaline. They can take beginners out on short tours and multi-day trips and experts out to practice skills in rough waters.
At Lincoln Canoe & Kayak’s Freeport location they manufacture canoes and kayaks and can demo that boat in their on-site pond. It’s also where you can get expert advice on purchasing a boat, paddling accessory, or “water-lifestyle” clothing. A full-service paddling shop for kayakers and canoeists, day-trips and expeditions, rentals, guided tours, etc. LCK’s real interest is helping you get out on the water.
In the Southern Maine area, join Coastal Maine Kayak, located in Kennebunk Lower Village, to paddle scenic coastlines, lakes, and clean rivers. Watch curious seals and graceful birds as you visit pristine islands and historic lighthouses. Coastal Maine Kayak offers guided tours to nearby Cape Porpoise, the Kennebunk River, Mousam River, and Casco Bay. We offer picnic and lobster on our island picnic tours. We welcome beginner, intermediate and advanced paddlers for our daily and sunset tours. Tours are led by a licensed Maine Guide. We provide kayak, PFD, and paddle. Each trip begins with instruction for the beginners with an introduction to safety techniques. Enjoy paddling on the sea and salt water marshes of Maine and enjoy the waterfowl and marine life. Maine Audubon Society’s salt marshes are respected and protected and one of the most popular of our eco-tours.

Standup Paddle boarding, or SUP, is the new way to experience Maine’s lakes, rivers and beaches. Beginning in Hawaii about a dozen years ago, SUP has now become the fastest growing water sport in the world. In 10 minutes, anyone can learn to stand on a board and use a paddle to maneuver themselves. But that’s only the beginning. There are many different aspects of SUP a paddle boarder can explore, from surfing overhead waves to fly-fishing in the tidal marshes, taking SUP yoga classes or running whitewater rapids, or even just casual, soul-soothing glides on the local pond. This is a sport that grows with your ability, with an almost infinite horizon of possibilities. Make this summer special by doing something completely new. There are a number of paddle sports shops in Maine that now offer rentals and/or lessons in SUP. If you are in the Portland area, Soposup, New England’s 1st store dedicated entirely to SUP, offers free demos on Friday mornings, as well as rentals and private lessons.
