SUMMARY:SILENCES Exhibition\, Opening Reception with Artist
DESCRIPTION:Alchimia gallery is pleased to present a photographic exhibition of the artist Franco Donaggio called Silences\, namely a homage to Maine as the title suggests. \nThe body of work\, majestic in its purity\, was carried out on the occasion of the bicentenary of the constitution of the state of Maine\, and specifically requested by Casa Alchimia’s owners. Grateful for the territory of adoption\, the Bonacinis have asked the author – well-known for his poetics and creativity – to interpret the spirit of their place of election. \nDonaggio\, who participates with prestigious works included in the private collection of Bonacinis\, has taken up the challenge. He will show photographic stories ranging from romantic splendors to the unquestioned seduction of a pure land. Virgin places where time is beaten by silences and seems to move slowly at a rhythm dictated by the soft whispers of nature. And if it is true that there is no such thing as absolute silence\, yet for the artist it is important not to stop searching for it\, the unrealizable dream of a deep peace from which to draw energy and then continue to explore and see somewhere else. \nThe exhibition will be on display through Sunday\, January 29\, 2023 – by appointment.

SUMMARY:Polar Bear Dip & Dash
DESCRIPTION:NRCM’s 15th Annual Polar Bear Dip & Dash\nA benefit for our work to fight climate change\nJoin us at Southern Maine Community College on Saturday\, December 31\, 2022\, for a 5K walk/run and/or a dip into the chilly Atlantic Ocean! Or\, participate at a location of your choosing between Saturday\, December 24th and Sunday\, January 1st. \n\n\nWe are pleased to announce that our 2022 Dip & Dash will once again be in person\, though you also have the option of dipping and/or dashing closer to home if you prefer. \nThe effects of climate change on Maine’s environment are severe. We’re already seeing extreme weather patterns. Wildlife habitat and our recreation\, leaf-peeping\, and fishing industries are threatened. Seas are rising and our air quality is decreasing. \nThe Natural Resources Council of Maine advocates for energy-efficient solutions for homes and businesses\, pollution-free air\, clean transportation\, and renewable energy sources. Every cent raised through the 2022 Polar Bear Dip & Dash will be used to directly support this work to reduce emissions and realize a clean energy future. \nThe nonrefundable registration fee to dip\, dash\, or both is $65. Additionally\, friends and family can support your efforts through a personal fundraising page.

SUMMARY:Wilderness Sled Dog Race
DESCRIPTION:On February 4th of 2023\, the International Wilderness Sled Dog Race will take place in the beautiful Moosehead Lake Region of Maine. As one of only two long distance races in New England\, our 70- and 35-mile races have become very popular in the racing community. Noting from the mushers how friendly the area is along with being a well-organized race on awesome trails that traverse over mountains and lakes with spectacular views. It is a race that mushers\, volunteers and spectators mark on their calendars. This year we will also be hosting the addition of a 4-mile sprint race with teams of three to four dogs as well as a Skijor race with one to two dogs\, making for lots of action throughout the day with teams finishing Saturday afternoon. \nThe Wilderness Race is one of the few that offers a great opportunity to view the progress of a sled dog race! The trail gives spectators several viewing locations as they have the opportunity to watch the teams travel across three road crossings\, viewing is accessible by car\, snowmobile\, snowshoes or cross-country skis. Come see these beautiful canine athletes doing what they love best and check out all the local businesses while you are in Greenville!
