SUMMARY:Wilderness Sled Dog Race
DESCRIPTION:On February 4th of 2023\, the International Wilderness Sled Dog Race will take place in the beautiful Moosehead Lake Region of Maine. As one of only two long distance races in New England\, our 70- and 35-mile races have become very popular in the racing community. Noting from the mushers how friendly the area is along with being a well-organized race on awesome trails that traverse over mountains and lakes with spectacular views. It is a race that mushers\, volunteers and spectators mark on their calendars. This year we will also be hosting the addition of a 4-mile sprint race with teams of three to four dogs as well as a Skijor race with one to two dogs\, making for lots of action throughout the day with teams finishing Saturday afternoon. \nThe Wilderness Race is one of the few that offers a great opportunity to view the progress of a sled dog race! The trail gives spectators several viewing locations as they have the opportunity to watch the teams travel across three road crossings\, viewing is accessible by car\, snowmobile\, snowshoes or cross-country skis. Come see these beautiful canine athletes doing what they love best and check out all the local businesses while you are in Greenville!

SUMMARY:New England Forest Rally
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the New England Forest Rally\, the 2021 DirtFish rally of the year.\nThe New England Forest Rally (NEFR) is an annual two-day stage rally that takes place on the back roads and logging tracks of Western Maine and Northern New Hampshire. The course is made up of dirt and gravel logging roads that are known as a favorite among competitors due to their challenging and technical demand. \nJoin the excitement and witness the incredible skill of these off-road drivers as they maneuver their cars (twisting\, sliding\, turning and jumping) through the woods\, winding creeks and one-lane bridges at speeds up to 100 mph! Fans also attend festivities such as “Parc Exposé\,” where all the teams parade their cars into an open area as fans can gather\, mingle with the competitors\, get autographs\, and see the cars up close. Rally Village features vendors\, exhibitors and food throughout the two days and an awards party. \nAgain in 2023 we expect a large and star studded field.  You can join the excitement in a number of ways; competing\, volunteering\, spectating\, or by letting us do the driving and escort you to the best places to see NEFR on the Rally Bus (more info to come).

SUMMARY:Maine Open Farm Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s not every day you get to see where food is grown\, how yarn is made\, or get to meet the caretakers of Maine farm animals and wildlife.\nBut thanks to the annual tradition of Maine Open Farm Day\, you have a unique chance to do that and learn about the business of agriculture where it happens! \nMaine Open Farm Day is an annual celebration held across the state. It is an open-house style event during which host farms extend an invite to the public. This allows you to learn more about their business and what they do. Each farm visit is different\, and depending on your visit\, you can experience the variety of agriculture on display. For example\, at diversified produce farms\, you may see rows of crops\, such as vegetables and fruits\, at different stages of readiness for harvest. Depending on the set up\, you can even DIY or “PYO” (pick your own) at some host farms. \nYou may also get to see working landscapes\, home to a variety of wildlife\, managed woodlots and farm animals. You’ll find host farms offering tours\, and farmer meet-and-greets. Some farms highlight their educational experiences and trails for the public to explore. There are even farms that offer products to purchase\, and share recipes or techniques to best enjoy your purchase. \nWE OFFER TIPS TO GET YOU READY FOR THIS SUMMER TRADITION\, AND FIND A FARM TO VISIT! \nFarms may update details and activities as the event date nears. Find more as participating farms publish their information on the Real Maine event calendar.  Check local listings before you head out. \n

SUMMARY:Great Falls Balloon Festival\, Lewiston-Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Based at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston—with additional entertainment and food offerings at Festival Plaza in Auburn—the festival attracts approximately 100\,000 visitors throughout the weekend. The Androscoggin River and rocky Great Falls provide a picturesque setting for the dozens of balloons that visit each year\, including some special shape balloons. With free admission\, hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by participating non-profits and economic impact in excess of $2\,000\,000\, it’s easy to see why our community eagerly anticipates the festival each year. \nBalloon launches are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily\, weather permitting. When the balloons aren’t overhead\, there is still plenty to do: dozens of food booths offer everything from lime rickeys to taco salad\, pancake breakfast follows the morning launches\, craft and trade booths invite browsing\, a children’s area with games\, a bounce house\, and face painting and live entertainment on two stages. Carnival rides\, a parade\, and various demonstrations and contests round out the weekend’s events.
