SUMMARY:Katahdin 2-Day Winter Ascent
DESCRIPTION:The remote location and arctic environment of Katahdin make this one of the most rewarding winter alpine ascents in New England. Reaching the summit of Katahdin at any time of year is an accomplishment but in the winter it holds just a little more magic and a lot less people. Our climb begins with a half-day snowshoe or ski into the base of the mountain to a winter camp where basic winter camping skills and relevant mountaineering skills are taught and reviewed. We start the climb early the next morning and return in time to travel back to trailhead by early evening. This trip is physically demanding but requires no previous winter climbing or camping experience. The trip will be led by Registered Maine Guides who are\, more importantly\, experienced winter mountaineering guides who are also trained in avalanche assessment and wilderness medicine. \nThis trip is 2 days and 1 night. You must be capable of skiing or snowshoe 12 miles in a day with a 30-pound pack. \nIncluded\nTechnical gear such as microspikes\, crampons\, ice axe\, transceiver\, double boots\, skis\, snowshoes\, dinner & breakfast\, & cooking gear. Participants must supply their own winter sleeping bag and pad (rental available) \n• Baxter State Park camping fees\n• Delicious dinner (day 1) and breakfast (day 2)\n• Professionally guided ascent by Registered Maine Guide with specialized winter alpine and avalanche training\n• Ratio: maximum of 5 clients/guide. Maximum group of 12 including guides\n\n• All group and emergency gear provided\n\n\nOpen Enrollment Course Dates \nJan 13-14\, 2024\nJan 27-28\, 2024\nFeb 10-11\, 2024\nFeb 24-25\, 2024\nMar 9-10\, 2024 \n\n

SUMMARY:Maine Oyster Festival
DESCRIPTION:Visitors flock to Maine from around the globe to enjoy our world class seafood\, and Maine oysters are no exception. Celebrate this tasty and environmentally critical bivalve with us in Freeport for our third annual celebration of Maine oysters.\nThere are now more than 150 oyster farms dotting Maine’s 3\,500 mile long coastline. Oysters grow slowly in Maine’s cold waters\, and that gives them more time to soak up the flavors in their home waters. Differences in the food they eat as well as the temperature and salinity of the water produce a wide variety of flavor characteristics from farm to farm. The Maine Oyster Festival celebrates oysters and the people who farm them from up and down the entire Maine coast! \nFollow The Maine Oyster Festival on Facebook or Instagram for updates! \n2024 FESTIVAL GUIDE
