SUMMARY:Portland 10-Miler
DESCRIPTION:10 Scenic Miles\n\n\n\nThe Portland 10 Miler returns on Sunday\, April 28th for its sixth running. The flat\, coastal course covers ten-miles of Portland’s most beautiful roads and paths along Back Cove\, Munjoy Hill and the Eastern Promenade — an exciting tour of Portland\, Maine. The 2024 course has some minor changes to previous iterations in order to avoid requiring offramp closures. The new route spends more time on the most scenic part of the course\, the Eastern Promenade. \nRunners will follow a semi-circle along the water in Back Cove. The course follows the Back Cove trail and passes through Back Cove Park before linking up with the Eastern Promenade Trail after passing under Tukey’s Bridge and Route 295. Runners then make their way up Cutter St. from the boat ramp before turning right onto the Eastern Promenade for an out-and-back portion of the course with elevated views of Casco Bay\, the islands\, and Fort Gorges. \nOn the eastbound return along Eastern Promenade runners continue past Cutter St. and head down Fore St. towards downtown and Old Port before turning left onto Hancock St. At Hancock the course links up again with the Eastern Promenade Trail until it passes under Tukey’s Bridge again\, but this time heading north over the bridge and along Back Cove for the final mile and half before finishing at Payson Park. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Katahdin 2-Day Winter Ascent
DESCRIPTION:The remote location and arctic environment of Katahdin make this one of the most rewarding winter alpine ascents in New England. Reaching the summit of Katahdin at any time of year is an accomplishment but in the winter it holds just a little more magic and a lot less people. Our climb begins with a half-day snowshoe or ski into the base of the mountain to a winter camp where basic winter camping skills and relevant mountaineering skills are taught and reviewed. We start the climb early the next morning and return in time to travel back to trailhead by early evening. This trip is physically demanding but requires no previous winter climbing or camping experience. The trip will be led by Registered Maine Guides who are\, more importantly\, experienced winter mountaineering guides who are also trained in avalanche assessment and wilderness medicine. \nThis trip is 2 days and 1 night. You must be capable of skiing or snowshoe 12 miles in a day with a 30-pound pack. \nIncluded\nTechnical gear such as microspikes\, crampons\, ice axe\, transceiver\, double boots\, skis\, snowshoes\, dinner & breakfast\, & cooking gear. Participants must supply their own winter sleeping bag and pad (rental available) \n• Baxter State Park camping fees\n• Delicious dinner (day 1) and breakfast (day 2)\n• Professionally guided ascent by Registered Maine Guide with specialized winter alpine and avalanche training\n• Ratio: maximum of 5 clients/guide. SUMMARY:Rangeley Fat Bike Loppet
DESCRIPTION:The Rangeley Fat Bike Loppet is a fat bike race/ride in the tradition of the Nordic Loppet Race\, and it means different things to participants. For some it’s intense competition\, for others it’s a relaxing way to spend a day outside\, taking in the pristine beauty of the countryside or wilderness\, and enjoying the home grown entertainment and great food and drink at the rest stops along the trail. \n\n\nWeather & snow always rule the day\, and our goal is to give racers a great surface upon which to race. We will avoid soft sloggy conditions to the absolute best of our ability. If the conditions permit we will mix singletrack and nordic trail into the course. As usual it will be a good time and there will be no shortage of fun. \nThe course takes advantage of the beautiful varied terrain we have available here at the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center\, from wide straight-a-ways to gradual ascent and descents\, to some aggressive hill climb/descent opportunities. Views and possible wildlife sightings are included! We have held a cross country ski marathon at this venue for the past 10+ years\, drawing competitors from the east coast and beyond. \nNo bike? No problem! Rent and ride with us! AJ’s Fat Bikes in Rangeley is offering up fat bike rentals\, first come\, first served! \nREGISTER
