The Trails End Festival began ten years ago to bring outdoor enthusiasts of all ages together to celebrate all trails into the Katahdin region\, to cheer for the AT hikers who scramble up to Katahdin each season\, and to showcase our community. DESCRIPTION:This year will be the best ever!  For 31 years\, the end of summer in Eastport\, Maine\, has been celebrated with a festival\, a gathering\, an homage to our local resources\, especially the Atlantic salmon raised in the cold waters of Passamaquoddy Bay. Of course\, no community festival is complete without a meal\, and the Eastport Salmon & Seafood Festival is no exception. The centerpiece of Salmon Sunday has always been the salmon barbecue. Through the years\, the details of the events and the meal — the side dishes and desserts\, the musicians\, the wine\, the servers and cooks — have varied\, but the one constant that brings us back year after year is that delicious piece of grilled salmon. We eat under the big tent in a crowd of friends\, neighbors and visitors. We look up from our repast and gaze contentedly at the breathtaking view of the Passamaquoddy Bay just a few feet away. Those of us who live here try not to take our stunning surroundings for granted\, and we’re happy to share with travelers who are wise enough to step off the beaten path to seek us out. The tour will visit Egg Rock\, Mark Island\, Baker Island\, Great Duck\, Mount Desert Rock (weather pending)\, Burnt Coat\, Robinson Point (Isle Au Haut)\, Saddleback\, Matinicus (weather pending)\, Heron Neck\, Brown’s Head\, Goose Rocks\, Deer Island Thorofare\, Blue Hill Bay\, Bass Harbor and Bear Island Lights.  If weather conditions prevent us from going to Mount Desert Rock and Matinicus\, we will travel to Owls Head\, Rockland Breakwater\, Indian Island and Curtis Island Lights instead.  There will be a full catered lunch with gourmet deli sandwiches\, fruit\, chips\, cookies\, clam chowder\, soda\, coffee and tea.    Lighthouse Historian and author Jeremy D’Entremont will provide narrative of all the lights and will bring copies of his books for purchase and to sign. During the day there will be many opportunities to take incredible photos of scenery\, wildlife\, islands\, and beautiful Vinalhaven and Stonington Harbors from the water.

SUMMARY:Houlton Potato Feast Days
DESCRIPTION:The event kicks off Friday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. with the “Touch-a-Truck” event on Broadway\, which will be closed to traffic. Area youth will be able to climb on\, sit in and pretend to drive a variety of big rigs\, fire trucks\, police cars and potato harvesters. \nThe Chamber of Commerce Lobster Feast in Monument Park will start at 4:30 p.m. The meal consists of Maine lobster\, new potatoes and corn on the cob\, with Houlton Farms Dairy butter to drench everything in and topped off with a homemade cookie. A second grilled option will be available. Lobsters were donated this year by J. McLaughlin Construction and Donahue’s Maintenance and Masonry. \n“Again this year the lobsters have been donated\, allowing us to drop the price to $10 for a complete meal\,” said Jane Torres\, executive director for the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. “A second lobster can be added for $7 more. Last year\, we completely sold out so come early.” \nThe chamber sold about 275 lobsters last year\, and had to turn people away when they ran out. \nStarting at 5:30 p.m. at the chamber office\, the children’s Doll and Wagon Wranglers Parade will wind its way through Market Square. When the parade ends in front of Cary Library\, the children will be treated to juice and cookies. The youngsters will then be able to participate in a mini-tractor pull event. \nAt 6:30 p.m.\, Ted and the Boys take to the Houlton Amphitheatre to play a variety of country favorites until 9 p.m. \nSaturday will feature the popular craft fair in Monument Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the ongoing Community Market in Market Square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the Church of the Good Shepherd’s Pie and Ice Cream Sale and Yard Sale at Watson Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. \nIn addition\, a chicken barbecue fundraiser for Houlton firefighter Dean Porter will be held Saturday in Monument Park from 4:30-6 p.m. Porter has had several cardiac operations\, with more to come. \nOn both days\, the Friends and Needles Quilt Show takes place at the Houlton Higher Education Center.

SUMMARY:Paddle & Pints Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Come together in Orono with Maine Yoga Adventures for a paddle on the Stillwater River followed up by a yoga practice and a stroll to yummy appetizers and a pint at The Common Loon Public House. \nIt’s a Sunday Funday meet up at Brownies Beach! Bring your favorite watercraft – canoe\, kayak or paddleboard or request one from MYA. Machelle LaHaye will be assisting Holly\, both certified paddleboard instructors\, during the paddle exploration on the river. Come solo or bring a friend. Beginner paddlers are welcome! \nAdventurers will paddle from the launch passing by the university and heading into a sweet spot with calm waters\, calling birds and perhaps a sighting of the local beavers or muskrats. Our flotilla will take it slow being sure to connect with the water\, with nature. And yes\, there may be some laughter and giggling along the way as we feel the bliss of being on the river. \nFollowing the paddle\, we’ll get some stretching in on the shoreline. No worries\, beginning yogis are welcome! The practice will be gentle and accommodating to all levels. \nWe’ll walk the trail alongside the river to downtown\, Orono to The Common Loon Public House\, a newly established Maine pub with an English beat. \nAdventurers will enjoy a pint on MYA as well as some choice Loon appetizers such as the highly acclaimed vegetable dip and quinoa & roasted beet salad. \nCost: $45.
