Maine Winter Kids

This winter, get outside and be a Maine winter kid!

Get Outside, Get Active, Have Fun!

WinterKids is the only nonprofit in Maine dedicated exclusively to increasing physical activity in children during our longest, most sedentary season. The shorter, darker, and colder days of winter—not to mention the increasing allure of screen time—make it all too easy for Maine kids and families to “hibernate” in the winter.

At WinterKids, we make it our business to provide families, schools, and communities with the right option: to get outside, get active, and have FUN! With help from sponsors like Hannaford, TD Bank, and L.L.Bean, our statewide programs & events offer special opportunities for all kids—regardless of background or socioeconomic status—to be active and healthy during the winter. We strive to build a healthier generation of children—a generation that truly understands the importance of staying active and fit in every season.

Our signature family program, the WinterKids Passport, is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year! The Passport opens doors to an exciting array of fun and healthy winter activities for the whole family—including downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snow tubing, and even dog sledding! The program is available to all Maine kids for three successive years (grades 5 through 7) and can be ordered online at www.winterkids.org ! In addition to the Passport, WinterKids offers an array of programs in schools and community events throughout the season from learn to ski events to festivals to Passport Days!
